Józef Stańczyk was born in 1953.
In the 1980s he joined a group of sculptors creating a specifically shaped “Kutno style”.
It is a style characterized by the accumulation of several rows of figures in a single block in a horizontal arrangement.
He sculpts religious motifs, biblical and ritual scenes, figurines of angels, and devils as an element of the beliefs of the Łęczyca region.
It has its own style and uses rich colors, creating in linden wood.
The devil Boruta.
Boruta comes from ancient, pre-Christian forest demons, and takes its name from the forest.
Today he is the most famous Polish devil, and his name is always associated with Łęczyca.
The devil chose the royal castle in Łęczyca as his seat,
This devil, extremely cunning, can take various forms depending on the activity, place and situation in which he has to act.
Most often, as a “nobleman” in a robe and with a saber at his side, he walks around the castle courtyard.
